Best Battery Hedge Trimmer for Thick Branches
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
The best battery hedge trimmer for thick branches is the one whose listing states a branch figure that covers your largest branch, and whose battery and charger status fits what you already own. This roundup covers eight cordless hedge trimmers from Amazon listings. Seven of the eight state a branch or cutting figure, from 5/8 inch to 1 inch. The eighth describes thick branches without a number. Three of the eight are tool only. Read each section for the exact figure the listing gives and for what the listing leaves out.
Quick answer
- For a stated branch figure of 3/4 inch with a battery and charger in the box, the DEWALT 20V MAX kit (DCHT821P1), the BLACK+DECKER LHT2220 and the SEESII trimmer all qualify, and their listings say so directly.
- The largest figure in this set is 1 inch, stated in the Greenworks title. That listing is tool only and names a 40 volt platform, so you need a matching battery already.
- The Litheli listing states up to 0.8 inch, includes a 2.0Ah battery, and says the U20 series ships without a charging adapter.
- The CRAFTSMAN CMCHT830B describes thick, mature branches with 22-inch laser-cut blades but gives no branch number. It is tool only, with batteries and charger sold separately.
Eight cordless hedge trimmers, listing by listing
Each section below repeats only what the listing says, and it names the place where a figure appears: a bullet, the title or the spec table. Where a listing is silent, the table says not stated. The sections run in brand alphabetical order, so the order does not reflect a ranking.
BLACK+DECKER 20V MAX 22-inch Cordless Hedge Trimmer (LHT2220)
The title says battery and charger are included, and the included-components line names a battery, a charger and the trimmer. The bullets state that the 22-inch dual-action blades cut branches up to 3/4 in. thick, and the spec table gives a 0.75 inch cutting width. It is one of three listings in this set that pair a stated 3/4 inch figure with a battery and charger in the box. Skip it if you need a figure above 3/4 inch, because this listing gives no larger number. The runtime bullet gives an area of up to 3000 square feet of hedges per charge, which is not a branch count.
| Spec | What the listing says |
|---|---|
| Branch figure | Up to 3/4 inch thick (bullet); cutting width 0.75 inches (spec table) |
| Blade | 22 in. dual-action blades; alloy steel (spec table) |
| Battery and charger | Included (title and included components) |
| Runtime | Up to 3000 sq ft of hedges per charge (bullet); battery size not stated |
| Item weight | 5.7 pounds |
| Dimensions | 36 x 6.7 x 7.75 inches |
| Warranty | 2 year warranty |
CRAFTSMAN V20 22-inch Brushless Hedge Trimmer, Tool Only (CMCHT830B)
The title says tool only, and the listing says the battery and charger are sold separately. The listing describes 22-inch laser-cut blades and a generous 3/4-inch blade gap, and it says the blades cut through thick, mature branches. It does not give a branch figure in inches, so this is the listing to skip if you need a number before you buy. The integrated hedge sweep attachment is included. Runtime is stated as up to 22 minutes on a 2Ah battery and up to 70 minutes on a 5Ah battery, and both batteries are sold separately. The weight is not stated in the text we read.
| Spec | What the listing says |
|---|---|
| Branch figure | Not stated as a number; the listing describes thick, mature branches |
| Blade | 22-inch laser-cut blades |
| Blade gap | 3/4 inch (listing: generous 3/4-inch blade gap) |
| Battery and charger | Sold separately; tool only |
| Runtime | Up to 22 minutes with a 2Ah battery; up to 70 minutes with a 5Ah battery |
| Accessory | Integrated hedge sweep attachment (included) |
| Item weight | not stated |
| Warranty | 3 Year Limited Warranty |
DEWALT 20V MAX 22-inch Cordless Hedge Trimmer, Bare Tool (DCHT821B)
The title says bare tool only, so no battery or charger is in the box. The bullets state that the trimmer tackles branches up to 3/4 in. thick, and that it has 22 in. laser-cut hooked tooth blades. The bullet gives up to 78 minutes of runtime but names no battery size, so that figure cannot be set against the others. The listing also names a friction clutch that helps protect the transmission. Skip it if you need a battery and charger in the box, or a runtime with a battery size attached. The title names the 20V MAX platform, and the listing text we read gives no list of compatible batteries.
| Spec | What the listing says |
|---|---|
| Branch figure | Up to 3/4 inch thick (bullet) |
| Blade | 22-inch laser-cut hooked tooth blades (bullet) |
| Battery and charger | Not included (title says Bare Tool Only) |
| Runtime | Up to 78 minutes (bullet); battery size not stated |
| Item weight | 9.7 pounds |
| Dimensions | 38.73 x 9.8 x 7.79 inches |
| Warranty | not stated |
DEWALT 20V MAX 22-inch Hedge Trimmer Kit with Battery and Charger (DCHT821P1)
The title says the kit includes a battery and a charger. Its bullets match the bare-tool version: up to 3/4 in. thick branches, 22 in. laser-cut hooked tooth blades, up to 78 minutes of runtime and a friction clutch. The runtime bullet does not name a battery size. The stated item weight is 11.9 pounds, the heaviest weight in this set. Skip it if you already own a DEWALT 20V MAX battery and charger and want only the tool, since the bare-tool listing covers that case. The spec table gives a 3 year warranty on material and workmanship.
| Spec | What the listing says |
|---|---|
| Branch figure | Up to 3/4 inch thick (bullet) |
| Blade | 22-inch laser-cut hooked tooth blades (bullet) |
| Battery and charger | Included (title) |
| Runtime | Up to 78 minutes (bullet); battery size not stated |
| Item weight | 11.9 pounds |
| Dimensions | 39.37 x 10.32 x 8.11 inches |
| Warranty | 3 yr warranty on material and workmanship |
EWORK 20V 22-inch Cordless Hedge Trimmer with Two Batteries and Charger
The title says two 2.0Ah batteries and a charger come with the trimmer. The bullets state a cutting diameter of 5/8 inch, the smallest figure among the seven listings in this set that give one. The listing also describes a 180-degree rotating rear handle and a double-lock design that needs two switches pressed together. Its blade length appears two ways: the spec table says 24 inches, while the title and a bullet say 22 inches. The weight also appears two ways, 4.3 pounds in the spec table and 5.4 lbs including the battery in a bullet, and both are shown here. Skip it if your largest branch is over 5/8 inch. The spec table gives a 1 year manufacturer warranty.
| Spec | What the listing says |
|---|---|
| Branch figure | 5/8 in. cutting diameter (bullet) |
| Blade length | 24 inches (spec table); 22 in. (title and bullet) |
| Battery and charger | 2 x 2.0Ah batteries and charger, included (title) |
| Item weight | 4.3 pounds (spec table); 5.4 lbs including battery (bullet) |
| Rotating handle | 180 degree rotating rear handle (bullet) |
| Model | EK-DHT52A (spec table) |
| Warranty | 1 year manufacturer (spec table) |
Greenworks 40V 24-inch Cordless Hedge Trimmer, Tool Only
The title states a 1 inch cutting capacity and says tool only. The bullet repeats the 1 inch figure and says the trimmer easily handles most bushes and hedges, but it does not say which branch sizes fall within most. The spec table lists a cutting width of 12 inches. The listing does not say what that measures, and it is not a branch figure. It names a 40V lithium-ion battery platform, and the battery and charger are not included. Skip it if you do not already own a battery for the 40 volt platform the listing names. The spec table gives a 2 Year warranty while a bullet describes a 3-Year tool and battery warranty, and the listing does not say which one applies.
| Spec | What the listing says |
|---|---|
| Branch figure | 1 inch cutting capacity (title and bullet) |
| Cutting width | 12 inches (spec table) |
| Blade length | 24 inches (spec table) |
| Battery platform | 40 volts, 40V lithium-ion battery (bullet); battery not included |
| Battery and charger | Not included (title says Tool Only) |
| Item weight | 8.4 pounds |
| Dimensions | 38.58 x 6.79 x 8.26 inches |
| Warranty | 2 Year (spec table); 3-Year tool and battery (bullet) |
Litheli 20V 20-inch Cordless Hedge Trimmer with 2.0Ah Battery Included
The title states a 0.8 inch cut and says the 2.0Ah battery is included. The highlights and description say the trimmer cuts branches up to 0.8 in. thick, with 20-inch dual-action laser-cut blades made of 65Mn high carbon steel. The listing says the box holds the trimmer, the 2.0Ah battery and a Type-C cable, and that the U20 series does not include a charging adapter, so a charger is not in the box. The listing gives a 2 hour charge time and says the battery can also work as a portable power bank. The weight appears two ways, 5.6 lbs in the description and 5 pounds in the product table. Skip it if you need a branch figure above 0.8 inch or a charger in the box.
| Spec | What the listing says |
|---|---|
| Branch figure | Up to 0.8 in. thick (highlights and description) |
| Blade | 20 in. dual-action laser-cut blades, 65Mn high carbon steel |
| Battery | 20V 2.0Ah lithium-ion, included |
| Charger | Not in the box; the listing says the U20 series does not include a charging adapter |
| Charge time | 2 hours (listing) |
| Item weight | 5.6 lbs (description); 5 pounds (product table) |
| Dimensions | 38.19 x 9.06 x 8.07 inches (product table) |
| Warranty | 3-year tool; 1-year battery |
SEESII 20-inch Cordless Hedge Trimmer with Two 4.0Ah Batteries
The title and the included-components line say two 4.0Ah batteries and a fast charger come in the box. The bullets state a cutting diameter of up to 3/4 inch (18 mm), and they describe a 20-inch dual-action blade, a 2,400 SPM speed and a 180-degree rotating handle. The spec table gives an item weight of 5.8 pounds, while a bullet gives 5.75 lbs, so both figures are shown. The box also includes a blade cover and a manual. The listing gives no branch figure above 3/4 inch, so skip it if your largest branch is bigger than that. The spec table gives a 2 year manufacturer warranty.
| Spec | What the listing says |
|---|---|
| Branch figure | Up to 3/4 in. (18 mm) cutting diameter (bullet) |
| Blade | 20 in. dual-action blade; high carbon steel (spec table) |
| Battery | 2 x 4.0Ah rechargeable, included |
| Charger | 1 fast charger, included |
| Speed | 2,400 SPM (bullet) |
| Item weight | 5.8 pounds (spec table); 5.75 lbs (bullet) |

How we chose
We searched Amazon for the keyword on 2026-10-22. The first results page showed 27 items. We kept cordless hedge trimmers and left out two pole and hedge combinations, three pruning shears, a three-in-one grass shear combination, a manual telescopic shear and a 3.6-volt grass shear, because their product type does not match a battery hedge trimmer for thick branches. From the remaining cordless hedge trimmers on that page, we kept eight. The others were left out without reading their listings, to keep the list to eight that the post can support with listing text.
Two listings were read on 2026-10-22: the Litheli and the CRAFTSMAN. The other six come from stored records of earlier scans, dated 2026-10-10, 2026-10-11 and 2026-10-14, and their dates are kept as recorded. Three of the eight are tool only, and they count in the list: the DEWALT bare tool, the Greenworks and the CRAFTSMAN. The criteria are plain. We looked at whether the listing states a branch figure and what that figure is, whether the battery and charger are included, the blade length, the runtime and the condition attached to it, and the warranty. The list is not ranked.
What we could not verify
We could not verify whether any battery in this list fits a tool from another brand. The listings state only their own platforms, and this post does not claim cross-brand fit. We also could not verify how any trimmer cuts a branch at its stated size, because the listings give a figure and no cutting result.
Several figures conflict inside a single listing, and this post reports both values each time. The Litheli weight is 5.6 lbs in the description and 5 pounds in the product table. The EWORK blade length is 24 inches in the spec table and 22 inches in the title. The SEESII weight is 5.8 pounds in the spec table and 5.75 lbs in a bullet. The Greenworks warranty is 2 years in the spec table and 3 years in a bullet. We did not choose one figure over the other.
The stored records were not read again in this session, so any change to stock, options or listing text after 2026-10-10 to 2026-10-14 would not appear here. The post has no battery removal steps and no blade handling steps, because the listings we have give none with a quoted source.
What the sources do not say
- No listing gives a branch count per charge, so none of the runtime figures can be turned into a branch count.
- The CRAFTSMAN listing names no branch figure in inches, although it describes thick, mature branches.
- Neither DEWALT listing names a battery size next to its 78 minute runtime figure.
- The listings do not say whether a battery from one platform works with a tool from another brand.
- No listing says how it is measured when it gives a branch figure.
For readers who want a different platform or a pole-style option, these live posts on this site cover related trimmers: 40-volt Ryobi battery hedge trimmers, a Stihl cordless hedge trimmer, and cordless hedge trimmers with an extension pole.
FAQ
Which listing states the biggest branch figure?
The Greenworks title states a 1 inch cutting capacity, and its bullet repeats it. The Litheli title states a 0.8 inch cut. Neither listing explains how the figure was measured, so treat both as the listing’s own claim.
Can I use a tool-only trimmer with a battery I already own?
Only if that battery is the platform the listing names. The Greenworks listing names a 40V lithium-ion platform, the CRAFTSMAN listing names the V20 system, and the DEWALT bare-tool title names 20V MAX. The listings do not say that a battery from another brand fits, so check a cross-brand battery outside this post.
Which of these include a battery and a charger?
Four listings say a battery and charger are included: the BLACK+DECKER LHT2220, the DEWALT DCHT821P1 kit, the EWORK trimmer and the SEESII trimmer. The Litheli listing includes a battery but not a charging adapter. The DEWALT DCHT821B bare tool, the Greenworks and the CRAFTSMAN are tool only.
Do these listings give a runtime I can compare?
Not directly. The CRAFTSMAN listing gives up to 22 minutes on a 2Ah battery and up to 70 minutes on a 5Ah battery. The DEWALT listings give up to 78 minutes without naming a battery size, and the BLACK+DECKER listing gives an area of up to 3000 square feet of hedges per charge. These figures use different conditions, so they cannot be ranked against each other.
Why do two Greenworks warranty figures appear?
The spec table of the Greenworks listing says 2 Year, and a bullet describes a 3-Year tool and battery warranty. The listing does not say which one covers the tool and the battery as sold, so this post reports both and does not choose between them.
Why is this list not ranked?
A ranking needs one rule that every listing supports, and these listings do not share one. Branch figures, battery status, blade length and runtime conditions all differ, so the post keeps the stated figures side by side and leaves the choice to the bottom line rule.
Bottom line
Match the stated branch figure to your largest branch first, then check the battery and charger status against what you already own. If you need 3/4 inch or less and want a battery and charger in the box, the BLACK+DECKER, DEWALT kit and SEESII listings are the direct matches. If you need 1 inch and already own a 40V battery, the Greenworks listing is the one to check.
