Volume from the stated dimensions
Each listing states an overall size. We calculate an overall volume with one formula: length x width x height, using the dimensions as stated, in cubic inches. This is the outside volume of the box, not usable storage, because drawers, trays and liners take part of it.

We searched Amazon for best tool chest on 2026-10-22 and read the listings for steel and metal chests and tool boxes with drawers or a rolling base. We read nine listings. We left out one, a CRAFTSMAN rolling tower, because its listing describes a stackable plastic tower system with boxes sold separately, not a chest. We also left out tool bags, label sets and a small parts cabinet from the same search, because they are different products.
A tool chest is a storage box, not a powered tool, so none of these listings is electric or cordless. The closest options to a rolling steel chest are the rolling boxes and small steel boxes above. The order of the sections follows the order in which we read the listings. It is not a ranking, and we did not score the chests.
What we could not verify
The listings do not say how much weight any drawer holds, how well the locks work over time, or how easy it is to attach the wheels. We can confirm only the figures the listings state, and we have written each one as the listing’s own claim. The overall volumes above are arithmetic on stated dimensions. They do not show usable storage space.
What the sources do not say
- The Garvee listing gives 5 drawers in one bullet and six in another, so the drawer count for that chest is not settled.
- The VEVOR listing gives no overall dimensions, and its overview points to art and craft uses rather than tools.
- The DEWALT and Granper listings do not state a drawer count or a load rating.
- No listing in this set states the weight capacity of its drawers.

FAQ
What is the difference between a tool chest and a tool box?
The listings use both names. In this set, the chests are larger rolling units with several drawers and wheels, and the boxes are small and carried by a handle. The Granper and VEVOR listings are the boxes, and the Goplus and MOVECOM listings are the chests.
How many drawers should a tool chest have?
The listings state between three and seven. The Goplus 6-drawer lists six, and the TANKSTORM lists seven. Choose the count that matches your tools, and check the stated count on the listing before you buy, because the Garvee listing gives two.
Do the rolling chests have brakes on the wheels?
