DeWalt 20V MAX Weed Wacker
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Details
If you already own a DEWALT 20V MAX battery, you want a weed wacker that runs on it without buying a second battery. That is the whole question for this guide. We looked at cordless string trimmers on Amazon that state DEWALT 20V MAX compatibility, and kept six that are true string trimmers. Every product here is sold tool only, so the battery and charger are an extra purchase in every case. We have not tested any of these trimmers. Everything below comes from the listings, checked on 2026-10-17, and every claim the listing does not back up is marked as such.
Quick answer
- Best if you want a DEWALT-branded trimmer: DEWALT DCST922B (bare tool). It is the only DEWALT-branded string trimmer in this group, with a 14-inch cutting swath and a folding shaft.
- Best if you want the widest cut: HEINPRO 16-inch cordless weed wacker (B0GJRWK45B), which has a 16-inch cutting swath and four bulk line coils in the listing.
- Best if you also want edging: HEINPRO 12-inch 2-in-1 (B0G47MF9ND), which rotates from a string trimmer to a wheeled edger, with six line spools in the listing.
- Best if you want the most spare line: SHOHO 12-inch 3-in-1 (B0HKMTSW44), which lists eight spare spools.
Every model is tool only, so check the battery you own before you order, and check the compatibility statement on the listing.
Read this first: tool only, and not all of it is DEWALT
Only one of the six listings is sold under the DEWALT name. The other five are sold by other brands and state that they are compatible with DEWALT 20V MAX batteries. The listings do not say that a compatible trimmer carries DEWALT’s own warranty or support, so ask the seller before you buy if that matters to you. Compatibility is what the listing states; we did not test any battery fit.
Each listing states that the battery and charger are not included. Before you order, check that you already have a 20V MAX battery and a charger that fits it. Battery runtime is not stated on most of these listings, so do not assume a particular runtime from the battery size alone.
How we chose
- Keyword fit: the title or listing must describe a cordless string trimmer or weed wacker that works with a DEWALT 20V MAX battery.
- Left out: DEWALT DCKO215M1 and DCKO222M1 (trimmer plus blower kits, not a trimmer alone); DEWALT DCST970B and DCST972X1 (60V FLEXVOLT, not 20V); cordless weed eater and blower combos; and a 4-in-1 brush cutter listing that includes saw blades and weed brushes, which is closer to a brush cutter than a string trimmer.
- What we recorded: only what each listing states. Where a listing is silent on a spec, the table says “not stated.”

Weight is stated for one model only: DEWALT DCST922B, at 7.32 lb without batteries. The other listings do not state a weight in the text we read, so do not compare weights across this table.
Worked example: what a wider cut changes
Take two listed cutting widths and do the arithmetic. A 16-inch head covers 16 inches of width on each pass; a 12-inch head covers 12 inches. The ratio is 16 divided by 12, which is about 1.33. So for the same strip of lawn, the 16-inch head needs about three passes for every four that the 12-inch head needs, before you count overlap. This is our calculation from the listed widths, not a figure from the manufacturers, and real coverage depends on how you overlap each pass and how tall the grass is.
The same arithmetic for the 14-inch DCST922B against a 12-inch model gives 14 divided by 12, or about 1.17. The difference is smaller, and you have to weigh it against the extra length and weight that a wider head can add.
Six trimmers, one by one
1. DEWALT DCST922B 14-inch folding string trimmer (bare tool)
Specs (from the listing, checked 2026-10-17): 14-inch cutting swath; bump feed; 0.080 in line; 4600/6000 RPM; 7.32 lb without batteries; dimensions 39.00 x 10.00 x 5.50 in. The listing says the shaft folds to reduce length by 40%. In the box: the string trimmer, a guard, and a handle. The title and bullets say bare tool.
Best for: DEWALT 20V MAX owners who want a DEWALT-branded trimmer and tight storage. Skip if: you need a battery in the box, or a wider or lighter tool than the listing describes. The listing does not state a line spool count.

2. HEINPRO 16-inch cordless weed wacker (B0GJRWK45B, tool only)
Specs (from the listing, checked 2026-10-17): 16-inch cutting swath; 0.08 in line; bump feed; brushless motor; a 6000 RPM motor (listing bullet); compatible with DEWALT 20V MAX lithium-ion batteries (listing); 4 bulk trimmer line coils (title). Battery and charger not included.
Best for: the widest cut in this group, for owners who want to cover more lawn per pass. Skip if: you want a folding tool for tight storage (the listing does not mention folding), or you want a DEWALT-branded product. The listing says the brushless motor reduces heat buildup and extends service life; that is the manufacturer’s wording and we have not checked it.

3. 16-inch cordless string trimmer with adjustable width (B0GK6LJJ78, Houselife Store, tool only)
Specs (from the listing, checked 2026-10-17): 16-inch cutting width in the title; adjustable width for trimming or edging; dual-line bump feed with 0.08 in line on both ends; 2 spools included; brushless motor; dual safety switch; anti-slip handle. Battery and charger not included. The listing says it is compatible with DEWALT 20V MAX batteries and does not name which battery models it supports.
Best for: owners who want one 16-inch trimmer that also does edging with the same battery. Skip if: you want a DEWALT-branded tool, or you need a folding shaft; the listing does not mention one.

4. 12-inch 3-in-1 cordless weed wacker (B0HCNKSC7X, Houselife Store, tool only)
Specs (from the listing, checked 2026-10-17): 12-inch cutting diameter; automatic line feed with a dual feeding mode; flower guard; battery and charger not included. The listing says it is a bare tool for owners who already have a 20V MAX battery, and that it converts to a string trimmer, an in-line wheeled edger and a mini lawn mower.
Best for: owners who want the most tasks from one bare tool, including edging. Skip if: you plan to mow with it. The listing names a mini mower mode, but it states no cutting height, deck width or runtime, so we cannot check that claim here. The listing does not state a line size or motor type.

5. 12-inch 3-in-1 cordless string trimmer with eight spools (B0HKMTSW44, SHOHO, tool only)
Specs (from the listing, checked 2026-10-17): 12-inch working diameter; 8 spare spools (title); copper-wound motor with a no-load speed of up to 9000 RPM (listing); converts to a trimmer, an upright wheeled edger or a mini lawn mower (listing). Batteries and chargers not included. The listing says it is compatible with DEWALT 20V MAX batteries.
Best for: owners who run through line quickly and want spares in the box. Skip if: you need a wider cut, since this is 12 inches. The listing says the upgraded spool system and motor reduce noise, but it gives no decibel figure, so we do not repeat the noise claim as a fact.

6. 12-inch 2-in-1 cordless weed wacker with six spools (B0G47MF9ND, HEINPRO, tool only)
Specs (from the listing, checked 2026-10-17): 12-inch cutting diameter (title); 6 line spools (title); automatic line feed, releasing about 0.5 in of line per trigger press (listing); rotates from string trimmer to wheeled edger (listing). Battery and charger not included. The listing says it is compatible with DeWalt 20V MAX lithium-ion batteries.
Best for: owners who want a trimmer and an edger in one tool, with spare line. Skip if: you need a wider cut than 12 inches, or you want a folding shaft.

Mistakes to avoid
- Buying a bare tool without checking the battery. All six need a 20V MAX battery and charger that you buy separately.
- Assuming DEWALT branding means DEWALT warranty. Only the DCST922B is DEWALT-branded. The others state compatibility only.
- Choosing by width alone. A 16-inch cut covers more ground, but the listing gives no weight for most models, so you cannot tell which is heavier to hold for a long session.
- Treating listing claims as tested results. Motor speed, noise and mower-mode claims come from the listings and have not been checked.
Who should skip buying a trimmer like these
If you need a complete kit, skip these tool-only models and look at a kit with a battery and charger. If your yard is mostly tall, heavy growth, a trimmer alone may not do the job, and the listings do not compare power against thick brush. If you only trim along a fence line a few times a year, a single battery and a basic bump-feed model may be enough.
Frequently asked questions
Do these trimmers come with a battery?
No. Every listing in this guide is tool only, and each one states that the battery and charger are not included. Buy a 20V MAX battery and charger separately if you do not already own them.
Is a DEWALT-branded trimmer the only one that works with DEWALT batteries?
No. The other five models state compatibility with DEWALT 20V MAX batteries. Only the DCST922B is sold under the DEWALT name, and none of the listings state a warranty for the compatible models.
Which trimmer has the widest cut?
Among the listings, the 16-inch models are the widest: the HEINPRO B0GJRWK45B and the 16-inch B0GK6LJJ78. The DCST922B is 14 inches, and the other three are 12 inches.
Which models can also edge?
The listings for B0GK6LJJ78 (adjustable width for edging), B0HCNKSC7X and B0HKMTSW44 (3-in-1 modes), and B0G47MF9ND (wheeled edger) all state an edging use. The DCST922B listing describes a string trimmer only.
Is line replacement easy on these models?
Line replacement is not described in the same way on each listing. The DCST922B lists a QuickLoad spool; the B0G47MF9ND and B0HKMTSW44 list spare spools; and the B0GJRWK45B lists four bulk coils. Check the listing for the exact spool or head type before you buy line.
